Finding inspiration for your home furniture

SHARE

One of the most important things when it comes to designing your home interior is having the right furniture; whether it’s a sofa for your living room, bar stools for your kitchen or chairs for when you are having dinner with friends or families. We understand that it can be a little difficult finding the right furniture for your home, especially if this is your first time buying new furniture for your new house or you aren’t 100% sure what it is you are looking for. In this post, you will find some ideas on where to look for inspiration if you’re on the hunt for new furniture.

1.   Cafes, bars and restaurants

One of the great ways to get inspiration for furniture design for your dining room or kitchen is by going to cafes and restaurants, where you can get a chance to sit down and try out different types of furniture to see if they are comfortable and get an idea of what design would work for your own house. You may find pieces that you would have never thought of and adapt this for your own space.

2.   Social media

Another great way to get inspiration for furniture that would suit your house would be to browse social media accounts (Instagram and Pinterest are particularly good for this) as they will have many different groups of people online sharing their great ideas and creating a community that will help you find the furniture that will be right for your home.

3.   Online shopping

Yes, online shopping for furniture can seem difficult if you are not 100% sure what it is you are looking for, but that way you can browse to your heart’s content without having to walk up and down showrooms. Independent stores such as Hampton & McMurray stock many popular brands, which is ideal if you’re yet not committed to a style or brand. Moreover, smaller shops tend to have higher standards of customer service so they can really help you pick the right pieces for you, be it online or in-store.

4.   Books and Arts

Art galleries or books can seem like off places to find design inspiration, but it’s a great way to let your imagination run wild, particularly with scenes portraying people and life scenes of all eras. It’s a great option if you’re going for more retro looks or even baroque-inspired pieces.

5.   Films and TV shows

Sometimes a great place to find inspiration for furniture is by watching your favourite movie or TV shows where you can try and recreate one of your favourite set designs into your house (or at least take inspiration from it). You may not think you are paying attention to the sets, but classic shows like Friends have proven that the décor can do a lot in a show – it’s up to you to bring the magic back home.

6.   Friends and Families

Finally, visiting your friends and family in their own home can be a great place to find ideas of a style you might like. If they have a similar space, you could even visualise how much furniture you could fit into a room so you’ll get a better idea of what you can fit and how to maximise the space. If you see something you like you can even simply ask them where they got it from!

The key is to take time to research the furniture. Prioritise your budget to be spent on the key pieces you’ll need and plan what you’ll be buying (this may be broken down into steps depending on how much you can spend at any time). We know it can not be easy to search for furniture but hopefully, this article has given you a few ideas so you can look for inspiration.
