This question is asked a lot on construction sites. Can SSSTS get me a Gold CSCS Card? Many supervisors assume it does. It sounds logical, right? You do the Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme, you supervise sites… so gold card next? Not quite. The short answer is no. The SSSTS course on its own is not accepted for a Gold CSCS Card. Additional qualifications are required. These usually include an NVQ Level 3 or Level 4, plus a valid CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test. Still, SSSTS is not useless. Far from it. It is often used as the first step in a longer career path. The Gold CSCS Card is designed for advanced craft workers and supervisors. That means skills must be shown, not just understood. SSSTS does not assess trade ability. It does not test real construction tasks. So something is missing. Gold card holders must show they can do the work, not only manage safety. This is why SSSTS creates a gap. And only formal qualifications can fill it.
